Earthquake jolts several parts of Pakistan
Tuesday, Sep 24th, 2019; an earthquake jolts several parts of Pakistan including Lahore, Islamabad, and Azad Kashmir. With an intensity of 5.8 recorded on the Richter scale. USGS stated that the earthquake hit 22 km north of Jhelum, along the agricultural boundary of Punjab province and Mirpur Azad Kashmir. Jhelum is located roughly 120 km southeast of ICT. The earthquake was 10 km deep and hit almost every part of Punjab, and some parts of KPK.
Earthquake hit Different Areas
According to the sources, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Jalalpur, Bajaur, Zafarwal. Skardu, Manga Mandi, Kohat, Kamoke, Kasur, Faisalabad felt quake for 10 sec. Charsadda, Swat, Khyber, Nowshera, Mansehra, Battagram, Torghar and Kohistan. Daska, Gujrat, Sialkot, Abbottabad, Chitral, Malakand, Multan, Shangla, Okara, Attock, Jhang and adjoining areas.
Chiniot, Bhimber, Jhelum, and Mandi Bahauddin also have jolts.
DIG Azad Kashmir confirmed death toll of 19 and several injured till 7 PM on the same date.
The images collected from the affected areas show massive deep cracks on the road. That resulted in many cars fell into the deep cracks on the streets. Shops, houses and buildings collapse, people rushed out of the houses and office.
The govt departments announced an emergency in the hospitals; meanwhile, the mobile services are not working in the area.
Above all, Muhammad Riaz Pakistan chief meteorologist said; This quake hit Mirpur worse which damages the infrastructure of the city.
According to ISPR, COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa directed for immediate rescue help for earthquake affectees in Azad Kashmir.
However, the NDMA & PDMA instructed to execute a rescue operation and collect all the information about the devastation caused by the earthquake. The rescue teams have approached in the Mirpur and they are gathering the information and helping people. NDMA releases a notification that aftershocks are expected within the next 24 hours in the affected areas. Therefore, Rescue teams have been sent to Mirpur to assist the earthquake victims from Rawalpindi, Gujrat, and Jhelum.
The last major earthquake hit the same land in 2005, that took more than 80,000 people in one go. Whereas in 2015, a quake of 7.5 magnitudes hit Pakistan & Afghanistan that took lives of 400 people. Resulting in damage to massive building and house of thousands of people. Both quakes left more than 3.5 million Pakistanis homeless mainly in Azad Kashmir.
This earthquake also hit New Dehli, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana; while the Indian media reported that people rush out of their homes and offices in panic situations.
